These three photos show Asma, 31, at different stages of her amazing weight-loss journey. After struggling with her weight her entire life she dropped a huge number of kilos for her wedding, as can be seen in the picture taken with her husband (far right). The problem was, she put even more back on. The photo of her in the brown and black top (far left) was 12 months after the honeymoon and her first baby – she was at her biggest size ever! Currently, she is headed back to a weight she's happy with (see middle picture) and is determined to get healthy again. This is her story:
“I was obese all my life, but I lost 46kg through healthy eating and exercise. I looked so hot when I got married and I thought, 'I’m going to stay like this for ever'. Then I got pregnant two weeks after I got married and that was it!"
"I only put on 5kg in the first half of my pregnancy. I was exercising six days a week – even kick boxing. But then, in the second half of my pregnancy, I took up chocolate and piled on 25kg. I weighed in at 102kg which, at 168cm tall, wasn’t funny. I joined The Biggest Loser Club when my baby son Alexander was six months old. I'd been watching The Biggest Loser and I really liked it. I knew that my problem wasn’t exercise. I’ve been actively exercising for the last four years, but I still struggled with my weight. So I realised it was the amount of food I was eating."
Asma was determined to get back to a healthy weight and has used The Biggest Loser Club to learn about what she can and can't eat every day. "What I love about the site is the diary. It’s put me in control of my food because I can see exactly what I’m eating. It’s taught me so much. I have been using it on a daily basis, without fail, for the past eight weeks and I love it. I use it to track my food and exercise and even comments on good and bad days. I now know so many foods and their calorie value so I can plan better when I am out – what to eat and what not to eat. I'm almost a diary addict actually!"
"The fact that the site's got the food search is also great – it's a great resource and the features on it are outstanding. I’ve learned how much food I’m really having. It’s taught me about portion size and the energy density of food. Now, I actually understand how hard I have to work to get it off. As a new mum, I also rate the fact that the site is available 24 hours a day. I went online last night and planned my lunch for today so if I had to get takeaway, I would know what I could choose. You can’t use excuses! The support from the team behind the site has been great. Someone is always back to me within a day or two."
"I’ve lost 5kg (I’m shooting for 70kg). It has been difficult at times but it’s not about being skinny for me – I really don’t care about that. It’s all about being healthy and not carrying all that extra body fat.”
